At Costa Marine we are constantly looking for innovative ways to increase performance whilst maintaining our core focus on safety. In recent years we have discovered a major problem of weed and debris being sucked through the motors and creating problems with motors and exhaust systems. We found that motors fitted with FNR trans cooler would get blocked very easily causing the motors to overheat and the rubber exhaust systems to blister and in some cases catch on fire. As this has been a major problem, we focussed on developing a weed strainer to suit Australian conditions.
The CM Weed Strainer is manufactured from 316 stainless steel and features a poly carbonate lid. Small and robust, it can be fitted to any boat. The CM Weed Strainers have been designed to allow maximum water flow whilst eliminating the majority of weed and debris being sucked through the motor and getting embedded in the Trans Cooler and damaging the impeller. |

TRANSMISSION COOLER |

The honeycomb design of the Trans Cooler on all motors with forward & reverse allows weed, leaves, gumnut and other debris in the water to block the trans cooler and/or reduce the flow of water getting to the motor.
With a reduced (or blocked) flow of water going in to the motor, the motor may overheat and in some cases the exhaust pipes may get so hot that they blister and/or burn. |

C M WEED STRAINER AT WORK |

The CM Weed Strainer is fitted between the pick-up points and the trans cooler / water pump and the unique design allows the maximum amount of water to pass through the weed strainer without reducing the flow.
The weed and debris that is sucked through the pick-up hoses is trapped by the stainless mesh panel. The lid can be easily removed and the weed and debris can be simply disposed of.
When debris passes through the water pump it increases wear on the impeller. By fitting a CM Weed Strainer on your motor between the pick-up point and the trans cooler and/or water pump the wear can be substantially reduced. |

Without a CM Weed Strainer all of the weed that is shown in this picture would have been sucked through a brand new motor. |
